About 10–15 percent of patients seeing PM&R physicians suffer from heart disease ranging from minor heart attacks to post-heart surgery. The physiatrist plays a key role in the rehabilitation of cardiac patients as well as in prevention of further incidents. Doctors manage the disease through a regimen of exercise, dietary consulting, stress management, and family counseling.
